Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.

Sue’s Views
If you are alive and breathing on planet earth ….. you must be wondering what’s going on! The world news is full of natural disasters ….. floods ….. fires ….. wars ….. pestilence ….. earthquakes ….. to name a few. Then there is the increasing rise and tolerance of immorality. Laws are being passed to allow things God hates ….. and now if we speak truth we are guilty of ‘hate’! It’s time to open our eyes and look to the Heavens. We talk so much about God’s love ….. but He is also a God of judgement. It’s His love that has patiently waited for mankind to repent and turn back to Him. He doesn’t want anyone to perish. But it’s His righteousness that will one day say ‘Enough’! What side will you be on on that day? This is ‘love’ speaking ….. not judgement! I am no better than anyone and that is exactly why I rely on Jesus. He is the only answer. He will give you ‘strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow’.

Experiencing God

Sue’s Views
Some things in life have to be experienced to be fully appreciated ….. like the smell of freshly mown grass ….. the sound of tuis in the tree tops ….. and the feel of the warm sun on a winter’s morning. A photo can only do so much. It’s the same with God. We can know about Him ….. but to really know Him we have to experience Him with all our senses. One of the best ways to get to know God is by talking to Him ….. and listening to Him. He speaks to us all the time ….. but other voices drown Him out. He says, ‘Be still and know that I am God.’

A few highlights from Day 2 of our short get away to Orewa! Time to pack up and go home. Thank you Lord for this time to be refreshed. And thank you for being at the centre of it all ….. whether times to relax and enjoy ….. or whatever may come tomorrow! There is nothing I’ll face that You and I together cannot handle!

Just Do It!

Sue’s Views
We are spending a couple of days at our favourite beach, Orewa. There have been a lot of changes since we last visited a year ago. A new sea wall is being built to help prevent erosion. It is said that ‘prevention is better than a cure’. Prevention is always costly ….. because it involves change! And change is something many of us avoid. But the ‘cure’ can be even more costly and sometimes impossible. If there is something you know you should be doing but are procrastinating ….. just do it!

Even If

Sue’s Views
True faith to me ….. is not so much about believing for great things in the future. It’s more about seeing the greatness of God in my present circumstances. One of my favourite songs is ‘Even if’ by Mercy Me. It’s based on the story of the fiery furnace in Daniel 3, when the 3 Hebrew men refused to bow to the King. They said ‘God is able to save us’ ….. ‘and He will’ ….. ‘but even if He doesn’t ….. we will not bow down!’ When all seems lost ….. that kind of faith will keep you standing!

The Beauty Of Aging

Sue’s Views
How do you view ageing? Is it something to dread ….. or embrace? Many of my patients at work are in their 80s and 90s. They comment about the challenges of getting old ….. constant pain ….. limited movement ….. the high risk of falling etc. But inside these dear folk is a mind that is full of wisdom from life’s lessons ….. and full of memories and wonderful stories from the past. Sometimes a listening ear is all they need. We need to respect and value our elderly and see them as beautiful. After all ….. I’m rapidly becoming one of them! Now did I tell you about the time …..

Surprise!

Sue’s Views
It’s not every day you see someone riding a horse in our township of Manurewa! But this guy was acting as though it was perfectly normal! The thing that amazed me was how calm the horse was in spite of heavy traffic and  lots of onlookers. I guess it’s a message to us to be prepared for the unexpected ….. and to not allow the chaos around us to spoil our day! I wonder where he parked his horse!

Beauty From Hardship!

Sue’s View
Harsh circumstances have the potential to destroy us ….. or to make us more beautiful! True beauty doesn’t come out of a bottle or a salon. And it doesn’t come from a life of ease and privilege. It comes from a life of daily walking with God and allowing His Spirit to guide you. We were never promised an easy road. Jesus said ‘In this world you will have trouble ….. but I have overcome the world!’ Some of the most beautiful people have lined faces that tell stories of hardship and sorrow but eyes that shine with love and joy. Don’t allow bitterness to set in. The frost on this grass has turned it into a work of art. You too are a masterpiece that God is working on!

Life Is A Miracle

Sue’s Views
I love how these fern leaves start all curled up ….. and gradually unfurl to reveal their splendour. It reminds me of how we all begin life as a tiny curled up little foetus. Everything we need is already there to become the unique person God designed us to be. Much has been argued about when life begins ….. but I think it’s pretty obvious that growth ….. development ….. and change are all signs of life. By the time it becomes evident ….. a life has already begun. Every life is a miracle ….. no matter how it began!

I Am!

Sue’s Views
Whatever season you are in ….. God is there! When Moses asked God ‘What is your name?’ ….. God answered ‘I Am!’ Not ‘I was’ ….. or ‘I will be’! He is God of the past ….. present ….. and future. When you are troubled by past memories or regrets ….. He says ‘I am your healer ….. forgiver ….. and reconciler.’ When you are struggling with your present situation ….. He says ‘I am your helper ….. provider ….. and wisdom.’ When you are anxious about your future ….. He says ‘I am your peace ….. protector ….. and guide.’ This pic portrays 3 seasons in one. Autumn leaves ….. winter trees ….. and spring flowers. He is the God of yesterday ….. today ….. and ever more!
