Sue’s Views 

The valley of the shadow of death is not a place we would choose to walk through ….. but for most of us it will be a part of our journey. However ….. there is much to be learned there. Firstly ….. a valley is a low lying area between hills or mountains. It takes you through something that would otherwise be insurmountable. Secondly ….. it’s only a shadow of death. Shadows can be eerie ….. but they are not the real thing. They appear bigger than the real thing ….. but they have no substance. Shadows are also proof that there is light even though you can’t see it. Thirdly ….. it is a place where we are assured of God’s presence. He said ‘When you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will be with you. My rod and my staff will comfort you.’ If you are in that valley ….. look for the One who is with you every step of the journey.

Do you have a dream ….. something you know you were born to do? Have people ….. or circumstances ….. squashed your dream? Does it seem less likely now to be fulfilled? Well let me remind you that the dream is in the seed! God put it there!  It’s still there along with the potential to make it happen. It doesn’t depend on what others say ….. or circumstances ….. unless you let it! Don’t give up on your dream ….. If it’s God’s plan for you ….. it will happen!

There are many reasons why things may seem unclear ….. but before you rush off to Specsavers ….. take a step back. Our brains are constantly overloaded with information. This can cause sleeplessness ….. anxiety ….. inadequate diet ….. and health issues. So before you blame it on brain fog ….. baby brain ….. or senior moments ….. take a break! Go for a walk ….. play some restful music ….. or have a nap. Once the mist clears ….. it’s usually a beautiful day!

Ducks amuse me by the way they can sleep standing up! It’s a wonderful picture of a peaceful life. Rest is a valuable quality. It’s the ability to take a break from the busyness of the world around us …..  knowing it will still be there when we wake up ….. but also knowing we will be better equipped to handle it. Peace and rest to you all today!

I don’t know about you ….. but I’ve really enjoyed this autumn season. The days have been mostly sunny and temperatures high. But we are about to change seasons ….. and we don’t always look forward to winter! However ….. the cold and barrenness of winter are necessary for the circle of life to continue. There is much to be enjoyed ….. hot soups ….. warm blankets ….. and cosy nights by the fire. The best part of winter is looking forward to spring!

One of the problems with us humans is that we like to be in control! When we are facing a problem ….. we have to try to solve it. But the material we have to work with is limited. The writer of Ecclesiastes ….. in trying to explain the issues facing mankind ….. made the mistake of limiting his search to ‘everything under the sun’. But God is not under the sun! He created the sun and is therefore far above the sun ….. the moon and the stars. His knowledge and wisdom is far greater than our little minds can fathom. His ways are higher than ours. You can trust Him! He cares far more about your problem than you do.

God has a wonderful plan for your life ….. but He will not override your will. He has given us freedom to choose. Along life’s journey there are many choices we have to make ….. some big ….. some small. He wants to be involved in all of them. Making good decisions will lead you to your destiny. Poor choices will cause delays. But the good news is ….. when the Prodigal Son realised his stupidity ….. his Father was waiting with open arms to welcome His son home.

I’m loving the Autumn colours combined with warmer temperatures. Even though winter is just around the corner ….. I’m going to enjoy the present reality! Looking forward to what’s ahead ….. or looking backward to what’s behind ….. can rob us of living in the moment. All we have is today. Enjoy!

Need direction? His ways are higher than ours. Need wisdom? His thoughts are wiser than ours. Need provision? He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Need forgiveness? Already paid in full! Need healing? By His stripes you were healed! Whatever you need today ….. look up to the One who is above all ….. over all ….. and able to do all things. His Name is Jesus!

If you’re anything like me ….. you love starting new projects ….. whether it’s a craft ….. an exercise regime ….. a healthy eating plan ….. but a couple of weeks into it ….. the novelty wears off and it loses it’s appeal. I’m so glad Jesus didn’t feel that way about me! If He hadn’t completed what He set out to do ….. where would that leave me ….. and you? That’s enough inspiration to see things through to the end! Let’s be good finishers!
