Heart Check

Integrity means being the same on the outside as you are on the inside. If we don’t like what’s on the inside ….. we try to disguise it by trying to look better ….. sound smarter …… appear richer etc. But eventually ….. what’s on the inside will come out. ‘Out of the abundance of the heart ….. the mouth speaks!’ Things like envy ….. resentment ….. pride ….. will reveal their ugly heads. Do you need a heart check? I know I do! It starts with acknowledging what is there ….. confessing it to God ….. and asking Him to help you get rid of it. David’s prayer in Psalm 51 is a great example to follow:
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;
        according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
        For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what was evil in your sight;
        So you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
        Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain
        me.”
